  • This record describes the trace metal dataset from the MNF RV Franklin survey FR 07/1997, titled "TROPICS97 Tropical River-Ocean Processes in Coastal Settings." The survey departed Madang (Papua New Guinea) on August 4, 1997 and arrived in Townsville (QLD) on August 22, 1997. Samples were collected from the Sepik river and from each end of the N-S transects (~ 150 km long) off the coast of PNG. These stations were upstream of the plume (145 E), off the Sepik and downstream, or in, the plume (144 E and 143 E). Samples were also collected along the equator 143 E, 147 E, 149 E and 152 E. Samples were generally collected from surface to ~ 300m except equator station at 152 E where samples were collected to 2000m. Parameters: Concentrations of unfiltered (total dissolvable) cadmium, copper, iron, manganese and nickel. Four inshore stations and a Sepik river station (18 samples) included filtered (total dissolved) cadmium, copper, iron, manganese and nickel.   • This record describes the trace metal dataset from the MNF RV Franklin survey FR 01/2000, titled "TROPICS 2000: A continuing investigation on the supply of nutrients, organics and trace metals to the equatorial region from the Sepik River and their influence on coastal and oceanic primary production." The survey departed Cairns (QLD) on January 14, 2000 and arrived in Rabaul (Papua New Guinea) on February 3, 2000. Samples were collected from the Vitiaz Strait, along a transect from the Sepik River to Manus Island, in the New Guinea Coastal Undercurrent (NGCU) at 144 E and 143 E, and along the equator at 143E and 150E. 84 TM samples were collected, including 6 filtered samples and 3 quality control blanks and 75 salinities. Parameters: Concentrations of unfiltered (total dissolvable) cadmium, copper, iron, manganese and nickel. One station with 6 samples included filtered (total dissolved) cadmium, copper, iron, manganese and nickel. More information is available from the Data Documentation link below.

    This dataset contains temperature, salinity, nutrient, trace metal and organic matter data for the Derwent Estuary (Tasmania), including Ralphs Bay and the mouths of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Storm Bay. The data were collected on various transects over 2 day periods at 3-monthly intervals, between March 1992 and July 1994. The sites sampled were a reduced subset of those used for the Derwent Estuary Physical Survey. Stations were chosen so that surface salinities ranged from 0 to 35 at intervals of about 5. Seven stations were sampled at fixed locations on each survey: at surface salinities of 0 and 35, two stations immediately downstream of major industries, and a transect of three stations across the river. The remaining stations (usually five) were selected to include all salinities that were not sampled at the fixed stations. Sampling was carried out at the surface (all stations), bottom (most stations), and intermediate depths at the seaward entrance to the estuary and midway down the estuary. The data form the chemical component of the Derwent Estuary study, carried out as part of the CSIRO Coastal Zone Program.

    This dataset contains data from pollution monitoring in Jervis Bay, NSW. The data were obtained from various sites around Jervis Bay at different times between October 1988 and July 1991. Samples for trace metals from sediments were determined, together with grain size. Mercury in the tissues of Red morwong (Cheilodactylus fuscus), Oysters (Ostrea angasi), Mussels (Trichomya hirsuta) and heavy metals in the leaves of Posidonia australis and Zostera sp. were determined. Organochlorides and hydrocarbons from sediments, water column and biota were also determined. Tributyl tin experiments were conducted in tanks. The data are part of the Jervis Bay Marine Ecological Study. NB - As the database has been lost, the only data still available are those published in the JERVIS BAY BASELINE STUDIES Final Report.

  • This record describes data from the Spectronus - Trace gas analyser based on Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) collected on the Marine National Facility RV Investigator Event voyage IN2015_E01. This was a trial voyage for the RV Investigator departing Hobart on the 29th January and returning to Hobart on the 18th of February, 2015. The Spectronus - Trace gas analyser based on Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) is manufactured by Ecotech and the University of Wollongong. It makes continuous online measurements of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), carbon monoxide (CO) and isotopologue del13C(CO2).

  • This record describes nitrate concentration data obtained with the Seabird/Satlantic Submersible Ultraviolet Nitrate Analyser (SUNA) owned by ACE CRC (Tom Trull), collected on the Marine National Facility RV Investigator voyage IN2015_V01, departing Hobart on the 21st March and returning to Hobart on the 29th of March, 2015. The SUNA V2 determines nitrate concentrations from ultra-violet spectra. It was deployed on the Triaxus towed body. Calibration onboard IN2015_v01 against Milli-Q purified water blank and Hydrochemistry 7 uM nitrate standard in seawater.

    This dataset describes data collected from the Huon Estuary (Tasmania). Data was collected over a four day period during August/September 1998. Data was collected from 14 sites, ranging from 0 salinity at Judbury to a salinity of 35 at the seaward end of the estuary near Huon Island. Sites were selected to as possible sources of contaminants. Most sites were a subset from the Huon Estuary Study spatial surveys (refer to separate metadata record). Water samples were collected during the first three days. These samples were collected for salinity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, trace metals, pesticides, pigments, spectral absorbance and phytoplankton. Sediment samples were collected during the last day. These samples were collected for organic tracers, pesticides, mercury and phytoplankton cysts. (Refer to the SED1 metadata record for more sediment information from the Huon Project.) This dataset forms part of the CSIRO Marine Research Huon Estuary study, conducted over the period 1996-1998.

  • This record describes the End of Voyage (EOV) archive from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator research voyage in2016_v06, titled "Sustained monitoring of the EAC: mass, heat and freshwater transports." The voyage took place from Brisbane (QLD) to Brisbane between October 28 and November 13, 2016. Supplementary project 1: "Turbulence scales and horizontal variability in the surface layer of the Ocean." Supplementary project 2: "Spatial and temporal variability in the distribution and abundance of seabirds." For further information refer to the Voyage documentation links below. Data collected include: Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP; 75, 150 KHz ), Lowered ADCP (LADCP), Multibeam Echosounder (EM710, EM122), Sub-bottom Profiler (SBP120), Gravimeter, GPS Positioning System, Doppler Velocity Log, Starboard and Portside Radiometers, Radon, Ozone and Oxygen sensors, Weather Radar, Greenhouse Gas Analysers (Aerodyne, Picarro), Air Pressure, Wind Speed and Direction sensors, Thermosalinographs, CTD, Hydrochemistry, Expendable Bathythermographs (XBTs). Voyage Specific data: Turbulence Ocean Microstructures Acquisition Profiler (TurboMAP). The archive for the IN2016_V06 EOV raw data is curated by the CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere (O&A) Information and Data Centre (IDC) in Hobart, with a permanent archive at the CSIRO Data Access Portal (DAP, https://data.csiro.au/dap/), providing access to participants and processors of the data collected in the voyage.
